Steigerwald Seeks Second Term

From the Lexington Minuteman:  December 08, 2011

I am Jessie Steigerwald and I am excited to announce that I will run for re-election to the School Committee.

My first term has been challenging and rewarding.  Before becoming a School Committee member, I had experience as an attorney, a school volunteer, School Council chair, PTA President and Town Meeting member.  Each experience has informed my work in setting policy, building and monitoring the budget and providing oversight for the Superintendent.

Serving on the School Committee, my perspective has widened.  I have been able to incorporate input from teachers, secretaries, specialists, custodians, administrators, families and students to improve our schools.

I appreciate that every action impacts many people, whether it involves the school budget, the way we solicit input when we evaluate the superintendent, or the way we commit to renovate Bridge and Bowman and to rebuild Estabrook.

Growing up with a mom who was a teacher, I saw firsthand that people who love learning make our public schools strong.  In Lexington, we are fortunate to have teachers, parents and residents who dedicate time, energy and funding to support education.  I am grateful to live in such an engaged community and I am eager to do my part.

My guiding principles in serving on the School Committee remain:  Accountability, Building Community and Creative Problem-Solving.  Learn more about my ABCs or come share your ideas and questions at Via Lago on Bedford Street December 13th and 20th from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. My website will list coffees in January and February.

I have also created an on-line survey at  Ongoing evaluation is an important component of our public schools.  We evaluate students, teachers, and administrators because we believe everyone can improve.  I look forward to hearing your constructive feedback, and I ask for your vote on Tuesday March 6th 2012.  — Jessie Steigerwald, Cedar Street
